A set of two running and one spare quartz controlled gravimeters by NEFTEKIP (Mod. GMN-132) were used during the second leg. The measuring principle consisted of the measure of the angles of a horizontal pendulum, which depend on the local mass differences. The reaction of the system to the movements of the pendulum, tending to bring it back to the horizontal position were recorded as a potential drop on a logging PC. During the port call in Civitavecchia (2nd leg) the system was calibrated against the reference point in the harbour. Final calibration was done upon the arrival in Catania at the end of the cruise.
